Modern cities have been cold hard places of stone, concrete, and steel, but the materiality of cities is poised to change. New fabrication technologies, construction techniques, design aesthetics coupled with the awareness of building materials as a contributor to climate change are reintroducing wood into the urban context.
The Urban Wood Forum, a partnership between the CaGBC-GTC and the City of Toronto, now in its 3rd year, showcases wood utilization in the urban context. In 2018, this event will feature the connection between urban intensification, wood design and climate change. This free public event draws architects, designers, developers, real estate professionals and design enthusiasts from across the region.
A post-forum reception will be held in the City Hall Rotunda featuring the IIDEX Woodshop Exhibit – an expo of innovative prototypes for reclaimed urban wood. NOTE: This forum has been sold out early in previous years.
