As building projects across Canada target significantly higher performance levels - such as Net-Zero Energy, high energy efficiency, and Zero Carbon Building standards - they are forced to consider new design strategies and technologies that they may not be familiar with. At the same time, financing, investment returns and 3rd party certifications may be tied directly to the successful achievement of these ambitious goals. This is especially true for P3's, performance contracts, pay-for-performance incentives or climate innovation grants. How can building owners and developers interested in leading-edge buildings proceed with confidence?
This breakfast event will present some of the most recent Canadian experiences in advanced green building projects to help stakeholders and investors better understand best practices in constructing high performance buildings, with a focus on the kinds of evaluations, certifications, quality control processes, and contracting that are being used to ensure that projects achieve their most ambitious goals.

EllisDon - Lessons learned in constructing Mohawk College's Joyce Centre: Ontario's first Zero Carbon institutional building

As the project developer for Mohawk College's Joyce Centre, which is pursuing the Zero Carbon Standard, EllisDon through its Carbon Impact Initiative is releasing a market report outlining key success strategies for Zero Carbon projects. This presentation will focus on the findings of that report and how the market needs to evolve to scale-up our capacity to deliver Zero Carbon projects reliably.
MaRS Discovery District - Investor Confidence Project (ICP) Early Adopters Program

The Investor Confidence Project compiles a suite of energy efficiency performance protocols to certify commercial and multi-family retrofit projects as "investor ready", reducing financing transaction costs and opening up energy efficiency as a secure investment opportunity.
Learn about the Investor Confidence Project and the Early Adopters Program, which aims to test the Investor Ready Energy Efficiency (IREE) Certification in the Canadian market. This program is being led by the MaRS Advanced Energy Centre, with support from the Province of Ontario, and in partnership with CaGBC and GBCI.
WSP - Banking on performance: How to meet performance targets through a building’s life cycle
Presenter: Luka Matutinovic, Director of National Performance Analysis, Sustainability & Energy, WSP
This presentation will demonstrate how projects can factor in – and overcome – associated risks and barriers at each stage of building development, from design to construction through to occupancy. We will also discuss strategies for delivering proven performance, through energy modeling, Measurement & Verification (M&V) and commissioning. Case studies and lessons learned will be shared with a large sample of projects that have successfully met their predicted performance targets, this presentation will focus on the strategies and risks to be aware of throughout a project's life-cycle - from design/modeling to construction/procurement to post-occupancy, to measurement/verification and commissioning.
Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions (BGIS) - Meeting the goals of the Vancouver Declaration on Clean Growth & Climate Change in federal facilities operated by BGIS
Presenter: Daniel Gosselin, National Director of Energy, BGIS
BGIS is working closely with Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) to implement aggressive measures to reduce the environmental impact of facilities owned by the federal government across the country. In addition to discussing the approach and challenges related to the mandate, the presentation will focus on the importance of relationships, communication and collaboration between all stakeholders to achieve aggressive greenhouse gas emission reductions while maintaining long-term fiscal responsibility.
